PM Ujjwala
About this scheme for women
Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana gives women from below-poverty-line households a free LPG connection so they no longer have to cook over smoky chulhas or kerosene stoves that damage lung health through years of daily exposure. Launched in 2016 by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, the scheme covers the security deposit, pressure regulator and first refill through a ₹1,600 subsidy credited toward the connection cost — the beneficiary pays nothing upfront. PMUY 2.0, rolled out in 2021, extended coverage to migrant workers without a permanent address or ration card by allowing a simple self-declaration in place of those documents.
