E-Shram Card

E-Shram is the government’s national database of unorganised-sector workers — daily-wage labourers, domestic help, street vendors, construction workers and similar occupations that fall outside EPFO or ESIC coverage. Registering, which takes a few minutes with Aadhaar OTP verification, issues a 12-digit Universal Account Number (UAN) card and automatically enrols the worker in ₹2 lakh accidental-death cover (plus ₹1 lakh for partial disability) under PM Suraksha Bima Yojana at no cost for the first year. Launched in 2021, the portal has since become a routing layer for welfare delivery — cardholders get priority consideration when applying for PM Awas, PM Ujjwala, Ayushman Bharat and several other linked schemes.
